For Tyoma: Pools and Airplanes and Numbers, Oh My!

Original artwork by A Quiet Week in the House.

Hi Tyoma!

There is almost nothing I love more than being inspired by someone, and your mom’s post about your love for swimming pools and measuring their depths, coupled with your interest in airplanes and numbers, well, it got my brain all excited and filled with lots and lots of thoughts.

And all those thoughts started bouncing around my head in this “let me out, let me out” sort of way.

I bet you know that feeling.

It is a happy feeling, isn’t it.

It makes me jump up and down and use all the energy my body has.

Team RV Is Coming To Oshkosh

My friend James flies with Team RV, the World’s Largest Airshow Team.

I met James at EAA’s AirVenture in 2010 and as pilots tend to do, we became fast friends. Since we met, I have been fortunate to see Team RV perform on three different occasions. All the airplanes they fly are homebuilt Van’s Aircraft RV’s and they put on a terrific show.

And this year, as part of EAA’s 40th anniversary celebration of Van’s Aircraft, Team RV is performing at AirVenture!

So, if you will be anywhere near Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Monday, July 23 and Wednesday, July 25, 2012

GO SEE THEM!

The following are photos I took at a show this spring.

Team RV formation flying

I think this is one of the coolest aviation photos I have seen.

I like the apparent chaos. Yet I like knowing no one was hurt because what I’m seeing is professional formation flying.

What I like even more is my friend is in this photo. The personal connection makes it all the more special.

I can look down to the lower-right, see that little red and white airplane and say “There’s James and that’s my ride!”

The awesome photo was taken by Dean Wingard.

I grew up a girl.

So since I became a pilot and joined the aviation world I often feel several paces behind my mates when the inevitable conversations about airplanes begin. I mean these guys can remember every detail of every airplane EVER manufactured. And I am like, “Well, the 152…” Because I trained in the Cessna 152 it’s really the only airplane I can speak about. That doesn’t leave many conversations I can participate in.

That needed to change. Continue reading
