This is what I have been serving up for lunch around my house lately.
Worms.
Yes, worms.
Now, before you go saying anything, remember what constitutes a good lunch is strictly a matter of perspective.
For if you were one of the multitude of birds that have been hanging around my backyard this weekend you would be saying that Charlotte makes one heck of a good lunch.
Yes, you see I have become something of a short order cook for my feathered flying friends. It is springtime and this is the first weekend I have been outside soaking in the sunshine and playing in the dirt. As I have been tilling the backyard, prepping the soil for this year’s crop of plants and flowers, I have been inadvertently exposing many scrumptious delights such as this little guy and the birds have been happily chirping and pecking their way behind me.
Rest assured though dear reader, after our photo shoot was over I safely tucked this guy deep into a hole made just for him. I may be making lunchtime a little less work for the birds these days but I sure wasn’t going to thank Mr. Worm for his cooperation by deliberately serving him up on a platter.
Happy spring everyone and bon appétit!

Very unique interpretation!
Thank you. Many hours spent watching many birds eat worms for lunch this weekend inspired me!
That worm is going to make some bird happy!
Quite probably, but I just didn’t want to feel responsible for that being so!
I would have done the same thing!
Just gotta step back and let the food chain do it thing on its own! Makes for a more peaceful mind, at least for you and me!
My 3 year old likes to put the worms back in the ground after he digs them up too!
I rather like three year olds, they are great fun and very smart people!

lucky birds!
They seem very contented indeed! I watched one bird cautiously hop closer and closer to my dog, who had no idea the bird was behind her, and in one quick second pecked into the soil and came up with a huge worm and slurped it down. Oh how I had wished I had my camera for that moment!
that is funny…with the unaware dog. ha ha. it would have made a perfect photo moment.

You’re so funny!
Glad you’re taking good care of your birds. I found a few of those worms in my garden today – worms and good soil go good together! I planted a few more flowers for my birds today! It feels so good to be outside! Hope you enjoyed it too!
Oh I enjoy being outside tremendously as well as taking care of my bird friends. Being a pilot myself we flying lovers got to stick together!
It was so sunny this weekend I actually, unfortunately got a sunburn. How many years does it take before I remember sunscreen early in the season! Glad you got to play in the dirt as well. Post photos!
Yay! Good thing I am not a bird or I would go hungry. My fear of the worm is a source of amusement for my family, especially young kids, who make it their special mission to freak me out by catching a worm and chasing me with it. I guess it has something to do with my parents telling me that if I play too much in the dirt, worms will get inside me.
I can see how you would have a fear of worms, yuck, the idea of them getting inside you is well, YUCK! Some things from childhood just sorta stick, don’t they. My childhood was full of worms and tadpoles and clams. Guess I liked slimy things and guess that tomboy is still alive and well in me!!!
p.s. You know of course that once kids get wind of something that freaks you out they are ALL OVER IT! Gotta love kids!
Love the post & the photo, too!
Thanks! Hopefully the little guy is still doing well!!! What is the life expectancy of a worm anyway? So much I don’t know!
