Yesterday our house was the setting for a surprise 18th birthday party hosted by my daughter Meg and her friend. The girls did all the planning, preparation and decorating, all Neal and I had to do was take our barking prone dog Blackberry and leave for the afternoon.
When the party was over and it was safe to bring Blackberry back, we found our house had been transformed into something straight out of Harry Potter’s magical world.
As I walked from room to room, I found delights in each theme soaked space and I was completely blown away by the thought and care these two young ladies put forth on behalf of their friend.
I found myself so pleasantly lost in the details of my absolutely wonderful daughter’s efforts.

Love Harry Potter so especially loved this one. What a great idea!
They did a great job. So fun and so thought filled!
This is spectacular!! I would love to sample a cockroach cluster and have jotted down “keep calm and conjure a patronous charm”. I will be posting this over my desk…
It is spectacular. And the cockroach clusters were delicious! Chocolate covered pretzel bits! Also, I had them leave up the Gryffindor banner and the floating candles because it looks like the great hall! I mean really, how fun is that!!! Glad you were inspired!

Details can be important! Makes it more special. Last year we went to the Warner Bros studios to see the recording studios from the Harry Potter films. It was unforgettable! We saw a lot of details there to! We will never forget…
Oh Meg would LOVE that trip!!! She has read the whole series three times and she said books 6 and 7 six times! She had me and my husband read them as well. So much fun and even more fun to see kids so enthusiastic about reading!
wow… Harry Potter fans.
love the idea of the party.
Thanks! I loved it also.
love Harry Potter so this is one party I would have loved to come to!! Do we need visas to fly on brooms too???
My idea of the wizard world is one where visas would be unnecessary, for I like to imagine it is a world without muggle-made political borders and boundaries. Wish you could have jumped on your broom and flown here or simply appurate. India to Alabama in a matter of moments!
LOVE the Owlery! So hilarious and creative! I’ve thrown a few Potter Parties of my own, but your girls put me to shame. Great job to them and thanks for sharing
Thanks Kelli! They did a great job, didn’t they! Just visited your site and you and my daughter have more than Harry in common for just yesterday the two of us sat at my computer as she moved around Google maps deciding just where in the world she wanted to move to fulfill her dream of being an expat!
She and her friend were so creative and patient. Although putting their ideas to life must have been a lot of fun to do.
It was Imelda. From the sounds of the laughter that filled our house when they returned from ice skating, their “muggle activity” the entire party was clearly a hit. Much fun was had by all, including mom and dad!

How fun and clever. Great pictures of all the hard work the girls put into their party.
Thanks! Their detail was incredible. I hope it came across in the collage. I don’t think there was a detail they didn’t think of! Ah, inspiration and passion are indeed terrific motivators! So glad you stopped by!
